Pivot
Regular price £11.90
Pivot is sourced with experimentation in mind. Fruit forward and always exciting — Pivot is single-origin espresso as it should be. Pivot is also perfect for pivoting between different brew methods — fantastic as an adventurous espresso, but just as great as pour over or in a cafetière.
The magnificent Rwenzori Mountains, famously known as the ‘Mountains of the Moon’, stretch for 120km along western Uganda. This region has a long coffee tradition. With farmers working an average of two acres, they work manually, with the help of the whole family, and traditionally group together to process the cherries.
While farmers here typically sell parchments - green coffee still covered in their dried outer layer - and kibokos (dried cherries), more and more choose to sell the freshly-picked red cherries to washing stations. This helps farmers access quick payment for coffee, and takes away the risk of drying coffee for the farmer, many of whom are not well equipped to dry coffee.
Over the past four years export company Kyagalanyi have distributed over 100 hand pulpers to the farming communities in Rwenzori and its surrounding areas. Combined with the various farmer groups who already owned pulpers, they are now receiving around 2,000 tons of premium parchment per year. This home-produced parchment gives the farmers a 40% increase in what they are able to sell their coffee for. The hand pulpers are instrumental in improving quality and farming practices in the region, which have already seen excellent growth.
