Los Suspiros is the name of the collaboration between Fred Morales and Axel Palacios, representing 3,200 acres. Axel grows the coffee and picks it, and Fred and his brother process the cherries.

Los Suspiros is part of a greater farm of 10,560 acres, called Alta Mira, owned by Axel’s father, and which has been in the family for over three generations. Fred and Axel grew up together, playing basketball. When Fred went to university, Axel started working his grandfather’s farm. Once Fred returned to work his father’s farm, they became compadres, coffee friends. Axel helped Fred and his brother with technical forestry support, while Fred taught Axel how to cup.

The farm sits in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala; the highest and driest region of the country. It is only one of three regions without volcanic soil and instead you find rich limestone. Historically, it has been one of the more remote areas of the country and accessibility has been challenging. In the past, many farmers have used oxen or have carried their coffees on their back. Huehuetenango enjoys easy access to water sources, enabling many producers to process their own coffee.
